The Hilton Templepatrick is a mid range 4* Hilton hotel, located 10 miles north west of Belfast in the picturesque Antrim countryside. We found it made for a nice break in the countryside, and a good base to explore Nothern Ireland’s tourist attractions by car.
A popular choice with tourists due to its easy access to Northern Ireland’s motorway network and free shuttle service to Belfast George best Airport. A name that still makes me laugh when I see it embellished on the side of the terminal building, as opposed to the other legends of Northern Ireland. Including Harry (Massey) Ferguson, inventor of the modern farm tractor and first 4 wheel drive F1 car.
The hotel is a 4 story country club, with facilities including tennis court, indoor pool, a well equipped gym and a beautiful golf course which the hotel overlooks. 9 holes cost £15, the full 18 hole course was £25. A very reasonable price to ruin a nice walk in the country.
The deluxe west facing rooms boast views of the golf course, preferable to the tree lined car park view offered by the east facing standard rooms. We stayed in room 308, a deluxe room that overlooks the putting green, a view shared by the excellent Treffners restaurant. You can see the view from our room below.
The friendly receptionist recommended we book a table for Treffners at check in, as it can get very busy. With times offered between 6:30 and 9:30pm, we chose 7:30 to make sure we made it to see Ouija at the nearby Antrim Omniplex. We had eaten here before and a similar menu was offered in the adjacent hotel bar, which shares the same view of the golf course, in a more relaxed setting. Food is well presented and served by attentive, warm, welcoming waitresses. Offering a dining experience and informal chat better suited to a far more expensive Hilton property. Endearing Irish hospitality never fails to impress me.
Spa treatments are typically priced for Belfast. 1 hour full body massages cost £60. 45 minute treatments cost £45 and both came with a complimentary free express treatment for hotel residents. I am not a spa kind of man, but Mrs Holidays was happy with her treatments and suitably relaxed after an afternoon of shopping. While she was being pampered, I found the gym well equipped and was pleasantly surprised by the extended leisure facilities opening times as I bubbled away in the Jacuzzi until 10pm. The fitness club staff were both friendly and helpful, providing a huge bath towel and showing me around. The changing room lockers required a £1 coin and the facilities were clean and modern.
If you are travelling from the Republic of Ireland, you will find the hotel both easy to find just off the M2, and an excellent place to do some discounted shopping, with Junction One outlet, Harley Davidson and Belfast only 10 minutes away. There is also a Hilton in Belfast city center, within walking distance from the shops. Click the map above for directions to the Hilton Templepatrick.
Overall this hotel offers good value, a nice relaxing location and easy access to both Belfast and the Antrim countryside. The restaurant serves well presented, tasty food and the staff are warm and friendly. It comes highly recommended.

A curious perk of this older Hilton hotel, is that it still has dedicated smoking rooms, rare to find in smoke free Ireland. These are all located on the third floor and subject to availability. Even if they are not available, there is plenty of free space around the hotel grounds.
